The improbably named "Ali Zongo" (as fake names go this one is a tad more ludicrous than most) has written to me today, inviting me to help him commit fraud.

I have written back, inviting him to fark off!

FROM THE DESK OF ALI ZONGO.
BILL AND EXCHANGE ANAGER,
AFRICAN DEVELOPMENT BANK(ADB)
OUAGADOUGOU,BURKINA FASO.WEST AFRICA.

With Due Respect

I am the manager of bill and exchange at the foreign remittance department of african development bank (ADB). I crave your indulgence as i contact you in such a surprising manner. But I respectfully insist you read this letter carefully as I am optimistic it will open doors for unimaginable financial rewards for both of us.

In my department we discovered an abandoned sum of Ten Million,Five Hundred Thousand US dollars (US$10.5m) only , in an account that belongs to one of our foreign customer who died along with his entire family in November 2002 in a plan crash. Since we got information about his death, we have been expecting his next of kin to come over and claim his money because we cannot release it unless somebody applies for it as next of kin or relation to the deceased as indicated in our banking guidelines but unfortunately we learnt that all his supposed next of kin or relation died along with him at the plan crash leaving nobody behind for the claim.

It is therefore upon this discovery that I now decided to make this business proposal to you so that the money could be released to you as the next of kin or relation to the deceased for safety and subsequent disbursement since nobody is coming for it and i dont want this money to go into the bank treasury as unclaimed Bill.

The Banking law and guideline here stipulates that if such money remained unclaimed after five years, the money will be transferred into the Bank treasury as "unclaimed fund". The request for a foreigner as next of kin in this business is occasioned by the fact that the customer was a foreigner and a Burkinabe cannot stand as next of kin to a foreigner. We agree that 30% of this money will be for you as a foreign partner, in respect to the provision of a foreign account , 10% will be set aside for expenses incurred during the business and 60% would be for me.

There after I will visit your country for disbursement according to the percentages indicated. Therefore to enable the immediate transfer of this fund to you as arranged, you must apply first to the bank as relation or next of kin of the deceased indicating your bank name, your bank account number, your private telephone and fax number for easy and effective communication and location wherein the money will be remitted. Upon receipt of your reply,I will send to you by fax or email the text of the application.I will not fail to bring to your notice that this transaction is hitch free and that you should not entertain any atom of fear as all required arrangements have been made for the transfer. You should contact me immediately as soon as you receive this letter. Trusting to hear from you immediately.

Yours faithfully,
ali ZONGO,
Bill and exchange manager,

This scammer claims to be Director of Audit and Account...I think he means Accounting!

However, English and grammar is not really the scammers' hallmark.

Anyway, this guy despite claiming to be in a very responsible position wants me to help him commit fraud. He then goes on to ask me to confirm that I will never cheat him.

Given that he is asking me to steal, and by definition confirm that I am dishonest, what good would my assurance be?

This scamming scumbag would have me believe that he is an honest man, he notes that I may have trouble believing this given the "amount of fraudulent activities now in place".

Quite!

Unfortunately, he then goes on to blot his copy book; by asking me to help him commit fraud, and steal a non existent $9M from the non existent account of a non existent dead man.

This is of course 100% risk free!

FROM THE DESK OF MR.USMAN DIEBU
AUDITING AND ACCOUNTING SECTION OF
BANK OF AFRICA (BOA).
OUAGADOUGOU BURKINA-FASO.
TEL: 00226 764-28-973
Dear Friend,
I am MR USMAN DIEBU the director in charge of auditing and accounting section of Bank of Africa (BOA) Ouagadougou Burkina-Faso West-Africa with due respect and regard. I have decided to contact you on a business transaction that will be very beneficial to both of us at the end of the transaction. This message may come to you as a surprise and I know it will be very difficult for you to believe due to the rate of fraudulent activities now in place, but this is quite different if you can grant me the chance to prove it.

During our investigation and auditing in this bank, my department came across a very huge sum of money belonging to a deceased person Mr.Andreas Schranner who died on Monday 31 july, 2000 a plane crash and the fund has been dormant in his account with this Bank without any claim of the fund in our custody either from his family or relation before our discovery to this development. The said amount was U.S $9.8.M (Nine million eight hundred United States dollars). As it may interest you to know, I got your impressive information through yahoo search here in Ouagadougou Burkina-Faso after fasting and praying on a reliable partner who could assist me wholeheartedly with out betraying me.

Meanwhile all the whole arrangement to put claim over this fund as the bona fide next of kin to the deceased, to get the required approval and transfer this money to a foreign account has been put in place and directives and needed information will be relayed to you as soon as you indicate your interest and willingness to assist us and also benefit your self to this great business opportunity. In fact I could have done this deal alone but because of my position in this country as a civil servant (A Banker),we are not allowed to operate a foreign account and would eventually raise an eye brow on my side during the time of transfer because I work in this bank.

This is the actual reason why it will require a second party or fellow who will forward claims as the next of kin with affidavit of trust of oath to the Bank and also present a foreign account where he will need the money to be re-transferred into on his request as it may be after due verification and clarification by the correspondent branch of the bank where the whole money will be remitted from to your own designation bank account.

I will not fail to inform you that this transaction is 100% risk free. On smooth conclusion of this transaction, you will be entitled to 40% of the total sum as gratification, while the both of us take care of expenses that may arise during the time of transfer and also telephone bills, while 60% will be for me. Please, you have been advised to keep "top secret" as I am still in service and intend to retire from service after we conclude this deal with you.

I will be monitoring the whole situation here in this bank until you confirm the money in your account and ask me to come down to your country for subsequent sharing of the fund according to percentages previously indicated and further investment, either in your country or any country you advice us to invest in. All other necessary vital information will be sent to you when I hear from you. I look forward to receive your hansom reply or you call me on my private phone number, TEL: 00226 764-28-973

Yours faithfully,
MR. USMAN DIEBU

The fact that this email purports to come from Africa and uses the phrase "100% risk free", gives me no cause for confidence.

The fact that it asks me to help the scammer steal money from a bank account, which of course doesn't really exist, puts the final nail in the coffin.

I trust that none of you are stupid, greedy or dishonest enough to fall for this obvious con trick?

Mukta Aziz wrote to me today, he claims to be an auditor with the Bank of Africa.

He is in fact "scum of the earth".

His little scam involves $30M lying dormant in the account of a dead man. Note, neither the money nor the account really exist.

He wants me to pose as the next of kin, and claim the money; he will then give me a percentage.

Fine auditor he is!

Needless to say, the transaction is "risk free"; for Mukta maybe, but not for the poor greedy, stupid fool who gets sucked into this.

How many times do I have to say this?...it is a con!
